Here's a small bite.
Well, at 11p.m., I was doing some transaction for a purchase at an ATM at Pasir Ris Central Shop N Save
I finished updating my passbook and was ready to leave when a mid 30s guy requested something peculiar.
He wanted me to help him deposit $250 into his account. So, I agreed. He passed me his POSB Debit Card and I did the rest. I deposited the 5 $50 notes into the machine and the machine spat out a receipt.
My jaw dropped when I saw the amount on the receipt. $319.19 total. He had $69.19 before he deposited.
Wow.
He had a small sum of money in his account. Just like many Singaporeans who cannot cope with the rising costs of living now.
Amazingly, he isn't upset at all. He was cheerful, thanked me for helping him and greeted me with a "Happy New Year". He was carefree and walked away with a spring in his step.
A happy poor man. Wow.
He certainly taught me something tonight. We may have thing going against us but we must never let it affect us. We must lift our heads and live happily.
"Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour,
or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else
will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever."

I'm still pretty stunned from that encounter but know what to do for the future!
